Business analysis
Through out the course of my career, the skills of a business analyst have proven essential in many roles. Even outside the position of a formal senior business analyst, the ability to gather and interpret data has been critical to my success. In my role with Citibank as a Senior Business Analyst and my Business Analyst work with Richter and Son Towing, these skills are naturally at the core of my positions. With Richter and Son, I have identified the relevant data points that influence profits. These include month, day of week, economic conditions, planned maintenance, and fuel pricing for the tow business. Weight, parts value, location, and scrap center purchasing price proved to be the key to improving profits on the scrap car buying side. By identifying which attributes were the best indicator of both current and future performance and adjusting stratagies accordingly, I was able to return profits on average 9% year over year, improving the previous result by nearly 100%.
My time with Citibank was spent between pre and post charge off collections. This role carried with it a heavy reporting load, both scheduled and ad hoc. These reports ranged from daily use by collections agents, to decks whose slides routinely made to upper management. Much of the ad hoc reporting resulted in strategy suggestions. The reporting and strategy changes were presented to management, and explained in a manner that made the need understandable and the solution clear. The first need I identified upon joining the post charge off group was a rate reconciliation of attorney and agency assigned accounts. This review took two days to complete, and saved the business in excess of $500,000.
However, it does not stop there. As Director of Service and Support at Host.net, it was my ability to read and understad the data which led to success. Staffing, trainings, and certifications were all driven by the numbers. The numbers told me where I had the abillity to dual train, or bring on a VoIP specialist. They also helped me to understand the performance of my team, and highlighted opportunities for improvement.
